Christmas time in Luxembourg

Christmas time in Luxembourg is magic, a small but welcoming city that decorates the streets with a beautiful Christmas atmosphere. Luxembourg is not a very large European capital but for a weekend it can be a good option, especially at Christmas. I really enjoyed my time in this city, not good weather but even it’s raining you can feel warm anyway. Check my Top 10 Christmas markets in Europe.

My hotel in Luxembourg was: Hotel Empire 190€ (2 nights with breakfast)

CHRISTMAS MARKETS

Place de la Constitution Market, more than 60 wooden chalets will be set up next to the Gëlle Fra monument. With a host of culinary specialties and crafts from all over the world, this market is the perfect place to find out about Christmas traditions in other countries. Make a ride to the big wheel, the view is amazing (10€/person).

Place d’Armes Market, the typical one, with Luxembourgish Christmas atmosphere. Withstands offering local crafts, Christmas decorations, clothes, and accessories. Try the “Gromperekichelcher”, “Grillwurscht” and “Bouneschlupp”, local cuisine is so good. Children will enjoy the merry-go-round and duck fishing.

Place de Paris Market, for St Nicholas Day and Advent, is located near the station. A dozen wooden chalets are clustered around a huge glittering Christmas tree. As well as the hot drinks and food, you will find a selection of handicrafts and Christmas decorations, including candles and Advent crowns.

Place Guillaume II
Place Guillaume II

Place Guillaume II Market is my favorite one to eat something and feel warm. There are chimineas and hot lamp to make more comfortable your outside dinner, even if it’s a raining day (so typical).

Grund food Market, with a wealth of local and regional produce. The many delicacies on offer include blood sausage, snails, stuffed baked potatoes, foie gras, classy toasties, Bouneschlupp, Angus Steak sandwiches, and grilled cheese specialties.

The stalls of the “Roude Pëtz” market can be found in the Grand-Rue. This market offers local charities the opportunity to come and sell their products to raise money for a good cause. Good time to make it on Christmas, which after all is about sharing and helping those in need.
