In the heart of Laguardia is one of the most beautiful hotels in Rioja Alavesa (Basque country), Hospedería De Los Parajes. The hotel offers relaxation, excellent cuisine, spa and much more, your tour of the Rioja vineyards will be unforgettable. The staff is very professional and helpful, the breakfast is spectacular and the location very romantic. The hotel has 2 restaurants plus an underground space for Tapas and wines, where there is also the Spa, what more do you want?
HOW TO FIND THE HOTEL
Getting to Laguardia is very simple since it is located between Logroño and Haro, a few km from the most famous wineries in the area. Parking outside the city walls is the only way, the city offers an elevator that connects the upper part with the lower part. Once arrived head to the main square to the left of the town hall you will find Hospedería De Los Parajes. Read here to learn more about Laguardia.
ROOM AND BOARD
The rooms are in perfect harmony with the exterior of the hotel, all have a bathroom, a closet room and a mini fridge with free drinks. I chose a room with a hydromassage for two nights for a total of € 440 (in full Easter).
Breakfast is included and is one of the best I’ve tried, coffee is not the usual machine, it’s good and you can repeat it several times. The orange juice is not 100% natural but it is not that poor. The buffet offered is varied, meats, desserts, fresh fruit, and cereals, plus they offer you eggs cooked on the spot (omelets or scrambled). FACILITIES
Hospedería De Los Parajes offers on the 1st floor, a relaxation room, for reading or drinking coffee. While on the ground floor, in the breakfast room, there is the restaurant “LOS PARAJES” (shown in the Michelin guide) which I absolutely recommend to try. Average price € 40 with appetizer, dish, and dessert, the cuisine is local but creative, very good.
On the floor -2 you will find the Spa, (which I didn’t try having a hydromassage in the room) and the “CALADO” for tastings of wines and typical products of the area. With the lodging, they will offer you a glass of wine with a “Pincho”, another detail that I liked.

AROUND THE HOTEL
Organizing a trip through La Rioja vineyards is amazing and visit Laguardia much more. Here we are in the Basque country however the wine is called Rioja. Its streets and corners preserve a great medieval flavor and its economy is based on the wine industry.
The perfect time to visit these areas is from April to October. The wine of this area is one of the best in Spain and well known abroad. La Rioja is a wine that includes 3 regions: La Rioja, Basque Country, and Navarra. My advice is to rent a car and visit the area in 4 or 5 days.
The best wineries I have had the opportunity to visit are Campo Viejo, Cvne, Luis Cañas, Marqués de Riscal, Ramon Bilbao and Roda. If you want more info on how to organize your trip to La Rioja read here!
