Siurana is a village of the municipality of the Cornudella de Montsant in the comarca of Priorat, Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain. Located just outside the Montsant region, it is just east of the main town of the municipality Cornudella de Montsant and consists of a small village at the top of an escarpment in the Prades Mountains.
Siurana can be considered one of the most beautiful towns in the province. Sitting on huge limestone rock and surrounded by the Estopiñá stream, it presides over a magnificent panoramic view of the Siurana river valley.
DAY 2 LA MORERA DE MONTSANT
Before La Morera de Montsant we visit the Cartoixa d’Escaladei, was a Carthusian monastery founded in the 12th century, it is considered to be the first Carthusian monastery on the Iberian Peninsula. At present, it is possible to visit the ruins where you can see the baroque portal of the Mother of God, the church and a rebuilt cell that has the furniture and utensils typical of monastic life. Entrance fee 8€.
La Morera de Montsant village of Arab origin, located at the foot of the Sierra de Montsant, a natural park, is 743 meters above sea level. You can admire the impressive views of the cliffs to the south of the Sierra de Montsant and the fields and villages being part of the Denominació d’Origin Qualified Priorat.
Here you can taste the great wine of Pasanau winery.
DAY 3 FALSET
Falset, capital of the Priorat, is located in the south-east of the county, in a valley surrounded by mountains, among them the Roca Roja, Morral and the Llaberia mountains, and in the center of the basin of the river Siurana, between the plains of the Camp de Tarragona and the Ebro valley.
Falset has an agricultural cooperative housed in an Art Nouveau building built in 1919 by the architect from Valls Cèsar Martinell, a disciple of Gaudí. It is one of the most outstanding wineries in Catalonia.
The castle was built atop a hill in the 12th century. It was the residence of the Counts of Prades and two queens were born there: Eleanor of Cyprus and Margaret of Prades. From 1825 it was used as a prison for over a century. It currently houses the museum.
In Gratallops you can taste the Buil & Gine winery.
