2 days in Barolo: the heart of Langhe

Barolo is the heart of Langhe, a beautiful valley surrounded by his castle and wineries. Barolo, known for the wine too, is the best place to visit all the areas easily. Just 2h from Milan and 1h from Turin, Barolo is a perfect idea for a weekend, from April to October.

BAROLO

Langhe is one of my favorite places in the North of Itay, so relaxing and calm, and Barolo is the best place if you want to visit it. The famous wine-producing country, one of the most important wine-growing areas in Italy. The present-day Barolo zone is located a little over 11 kilometers (6.8 mi) southwest of Alba. Barolo is a DOCG red wine (Controlled and Guaranteed Denomination of Origin).

The area is located 3 km southwest of the Barbaresco zone with only the vineyards of Diano d’Alba planted with Dolcetto between the two Nebbiolo strongholds. Compared to the Barbaresco zone, the Barolo zone is cooler and located on higher elevations, rising nearly 50 meters above Barbaresco.

WINERIES

During your stay, I suggest you visit some wine cellars, for example, Borgogno. Borgogno is a historic brand since 1761 it has been producing one of the best red wines in Italy. The basic tour cost € 15/adult, I suggest you take the “360-degree tour” that costs € 50 or simply go to the terrace and taste some glass for 4€.

Marchesi di Barolo is one the most famous wineries in Langhe, in the building overlooking the Castle of the Marquis Falletti. It is here that more than 200 years ago a beautiful story began. Today the Abbona Family continues the work that began more than two centuries ago producing high-quality wines meant to enrich, year after year.

Another winery is Adelaide winery, the winery began its journey in 1817 when a group of winegrowers decided to unite their vineyards. For 20 years it has belonged to Amabile Drocco, who has created a dream winery and now is one of the most modern wineries in Langhe.

WHERE TO EAT AND SLEEP

I choose the La Giolitta b&b a few meters of the castle and was an amazing experience. Offering views over the hills of Piedmont is located in the center of Barolo, famous for its red wine. The property is in rustic style and is within walking distance of the Wine Museum. The price starting from 100€ double room/breakfast included.

There is a lot of good restaurants in this place but the best one for me is the RossoBarolo restaurant. Pick the steak tartar and the Risotto and of course a bottle of wine.
