There is always a good excuse to visit London, but isn’t it better to visit it in the 5 best periods to visit London? My personal ranking, based on events and periods of the year that make this city magical.
5 BEST PERIOD TO VISIT LONDON
- Christmas
- August
- Open House London
- Halloween
- New year’s eve
CHRISTMAS
London is second to none when it comes to Christmas, lights, markets and the winter wonderland of Hyde Park. One of the best cities in terms of decorations, in London you can breathe one of the best Christmas atmospheres. The largest winter amusement park, Winter Wonderland occupies Hyde Park during the Christmas holidays. The Tower of London, where you can find a beautiful ice rink, until the 5th of January. Here all the information about Christmas time in London.

AUGUST
August is a wonderful month to visit London, events and good weather can be a good motivator for traveling. Remember that the weather can change at any time. The most important of the events in August is the Notting Hill Carnival, which is celebrated in the last days of the month, in the district of the same name. Since 1964 the Caribbean community of London has been celebrating its culture and traditions with this great party that has become famous all over the world: two days of live music, from reggae to salsa, DJs, afterparties, floats, parades and gastronomic specialties.
Other events:
- BBC Proms 2020
- Film4 Summer Screen
- London FrightFest Film Festival
- SW4 – South West Four 2020
- Urban Food Fest
- Great British Beer Festival
- Wimbledon Park Food & Drink Festival
- Camden Fringe Festival 2020
- Buckingham Palace Summer Opening
OPEN HOUSE LONDON
To get to know the architectural wonders of the city you must travel on the weekend of Open House London. In which hundreds of buildings in the capital and its surroundings are open to the public. The event takes place on the third weekend of September.
The first Open House London started in 1992. Open House London is the world’s largest architecture festival, giving the free public access to 800+ buildings, walks, talks and tours over one weekend in September each year. The most visited building in 2019 are:
Foreign and Commonwealth Office
Freemasons’ Hall
22 Whitehall
Somerset House
Royal Courts of Justice
HALLOWEEN
London is very famous for its tours, ghosts, Jack The Ripper (here the tour), etc., so why not visit the city for Halloween? You can celebrate it on one of the many tours or at the theater, I highly recommend the Wicked in the Apollo theater in Victoria Station.
If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you can’t miss the Warner Bros Studio Tour London: The Making of Harry Potter. The Great Hall is seasonally decorated with over 100 pumpkins hanging from the ceiling and a Halloween feast is laid out across the tables. You can also discover the filming secrets behind the Dark Arts and dual against Death Eaters in live demonstrations.
NEW YEAR’S EVE
A classic, celebrating the new year in London city. Thousands of tourists every year choose this destination to start the new year. The most awaited moments are the London Eye fireworks, which start just after the 12 bells of Big Ben.
