London is second to none when it comes to Christmas, lights, markets and the winter wonderland of Hyde Park, today we talk about Christmas time in London. WINTER WONDERLAND
The largest winter amusement park, Winter Wonderland occupies Hyde Park during the Christmas holidays. Free admission (unless you don’t want to participate in shows and activities) but you can’t enter with bottles of water or alcohol. Open from 21st November 2019 until 5th January 2020, 10 am – 10 pm, except Christmas Day, closed.
How to get by metro:
Green Park (Victoria, Jubilee and Piccadilly lines)
Victoria (Victoria line and National Rail)
Paddington (Bakerloo, Metropolitan, Circle & District lines and National Rail)
Hyde Park Corner (Piccadilly line) try to avoid it, can be very busy
Marble Arch (Central line) try to avoid it, can be very busy
Each token costs £1. Children’s rides start at £2 and other rides start at £3. Everyone who rides needs a token (even parents riding with children). Please remember, tokens can only be used on the day of the purchase, they are not exchangeable or refundable. All of the many bars, cafes, restaurants, and shops accept cash and some accept cards.
MARKETS
The other Christmas markets that you can visit during this period are:
Leicester Square: circus, shows and much more, open 12 pm – 10 pm Mon – Fri 10 am – 10 pm Sat-Sun. Christmas markets with hand-crafted goods and delicious food and drinks, a Santa’s Grotto where children can meet the man himself.
Trafalgar Square: just markets and hand-crafted goods and delicious food and drinks. The Trafalgar Square Christmas tree is usually a Norwegian spruce (Picea abies) over 20 meters high and 50-60 years old. It is selected from the forests surrounding Oslo with great care for several months, even years, in advance. Behind the market, you can visit the beautiful National Galley museum.
LIGHTS AND ACTIVITIES
The Tower of London: here you can find a beautiful ice rink, until the 5th of January. Better booking, on weekends especially, it costs 18€ approx for adults. Skating sessions start on the hour and lasts for 45 minutes, and remember, the ticket price includes skate hire. Here the ticket to visit the Tower of London.
Regent and Carnaby street: two principal points to discover the best lights of London. I personally prefer Carnaby because of the use of recycled products and it’s very beautiful.
