Il Chianti, one of the most famous areas to see in Tuscany. It extends between the province of Florence and Siena. Characterized by a spectacular landscape, with its rolling green hills with miles of vineyards and olive groves, it is famous for its wines, known and appreciated all over the world.
Charming small Tuscan villages, with narrow winding streets, some with medieval walls, also castles and fortresses decorate the whole area. All these are the things to see and do on a trip to the Chianti Valley, we explain our route.
Montefioralle:
WHAT TO DO IN CHIANTI
- Chianti Half-Day Wine Tour
- Visit wineries (my recommendation goes to Antinori nel Chianti Classico)
Chianti region is an area full of vineyards and wineries, producing wine of the same name. The landscapes are the most characteristic of Tuscany. Throughout the route, you will find many historic wineries or cantine, as they are called in Italy, that invite you to walk through their doors, stop to taste their wine, and take a bottle home, of course. The best way to enjoy this area is to let yourself be surprised, stopping once and thousand times to contemplate and photograph the views.
Throughout the tour, you will chase the ‘Gallo Nero’ (the Black Rooster), which is the emblem of the wines of the area. The protagonist grape of these wines is the Sangiovese which, as established by the D.O., this grape variety must be present, at least, in a percentage of 75%, the rest is left to the choice of the winemaker.
- Try the Tuscany cuisine
One of the most charming places is La Antica Macelleria Falorni, one of the oldest butcher’s shops in Tuscany (it has been open since 1806) and is now a place to enjoy cold meats, cheeses and local wines. We, who are very well behaved, had some local wines and a slab of pecorino.
WHAT TO SEE
- Val di Pesa (Greve in Chianti, San Casciano and Tavernelle)
- Val d’Elsa (Castellina in Chianti, Poggibonsi and Barberino)
- Montefioralle
- Panzano
- Gaiole
- Badia di Passignano
- Castelnuovo Berardenga
