Who among you hasn’t dreamed of visiting the famous castle that inspired Disney? Neuschwanstein castle is the name of the famous castle, it is located 109 km from Munich. Today Neuschwanstein is one of the most popular of all the palaces and castles in Europe. Every year 1.4 million people visit “the castle of the fairy-tale king” and of course it served as the inspiration for Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle.
NEUSCHWANSTEIN INFORMATION
Neuschwanstein Castle is situated near Schwangau and Füssen in the Allgäu. The path to the castle starts in the village of Hohenschwangau, and this is also your last opportunity to park. Here all the info to get there.
Opening hours: April to 15 October: 9 am-6 pm / 16 October to March: 10 am-4 pm
Open daily except for 1 January and 24 / 25 / 31 December
Admission fees: 13 euros regular · 12 euros reduced. Children and young people under 18 are free.
Königsschlösser combination ticket: the combination ticket is valid for six months; you can visit each of the palaces Neuschwanstein, for 26 euros.

THE CASTLE
Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th-century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany.
The palace was commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and in honor of Richard Wagner. Ludwig paid for the palace out of his personal fortune and by means of extensive borrowing, rather than Bavarian public funds. The castle was intended as a home for the King until he died in 1886. It was open to the public shortly after his death.
Initial ideas for the palace drew stylistically on Nuremberg Castle and envisaged a simple building in place of the old Vorderhohenschwangau Castle, but they were rejected and replaced by increasingly extensive drafts.
AROUND THE CASTLE
Hohenschwangau Castle is a 19th-century palace in southern Germany. It was the childhood residence of King Ludwig II of Bavaria and was built by his father, King Maximilian II of Bavaria. During World War I and World War II, the castle suffered no damage.
The castle is open all through the year (except for Christmas). Opening hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (April through September) and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (October through March)
