Today the tour will be in the wonderful Example and Gracia district. Historic neighborhoods of the city of Barcelona and thanks to places like the Sagrada Familia and Park Guell, one of the areas with more tourists. Check the post to discover more place like Casa Vicens or the Bunkers. We can start with the Free walking tour of Barcelona.
CASA BATTLÓ
To start this tour we start from the very famous Catalonia Square, from there we climb to Passeig de Gracia, considered the Champs Elysee in Barcelona, where we find the first work of Gaudí or the famous Casa Battló, price and admission times.
The roof is arched and was likened to the back of a dragon. A common theory about the building is that the rounded feature to the left of center, terminating at the top in a turret and cross, represents the lance of Saint George (patron saint of Catalonia, Gaudí’s home), which has been plunged into the back of the dragon.
LA PEDRERA AND THE OTHERS
If you have already visited it on other occasions I recommend you visit the Casa Amatller. Famous for its square shape and home of a famous chocolatier in Barcelona, this is why on the ground floor you will find a chocolate shop. From here we will start a series of historical and architectural buildings very famous for the city. Like Palau Macaya, Casa de les Punxes, La Casa Comalat, and Palau Baró de Quadras.
But we continue to walk north and find another work by Gaudí, La Pedrera, its terrace is very beautiful, but maybe I recommend you visit it when it’s free. Otherwise for tickets, book here! We climb towards Casa Fuster, a famous hotel with a very nice terrace. If you love the hotel terraces this article is for you. Once past the hotel, we go to Casa Vicens, another work by Gaudí and less known, price and time of entry, but very special for its colors and shapes.
SAGRADA FAMILIA
We arrive at Sagrada Familia plaza, to admire one of the symbolic buildings of this city. In continuous construction, the works should end in 2024, take a 360-degree turn around the most famous church in Barcelona. Tickets here, I recommend you buy the ticket online to avoid further queues and if you can take the audio guide you will be easier to discover the secrets of this church so strange. If you love fish food in this area I suggest you try the Paradeta.
If you are not satisfied after the Sagrada Familia take Av. Gaudí and go to the San Pau Hospital, a modernist enclosure, now a museum that will leave you speechless.
PARK GUELL & BUNKERS
Park Guell is still one of the most visited attractions, although it is now subject to charges. Price and admission times. Do not just take a picture with a Gaudí’s lizard, the park is very large and very beautiful. Take the L1 metro to Lesseps, or the 24/92 bus will leave you at the side entrance of the park.
To finish the tour I leave you with a view of the impressive city, from the Bunkers. Take the bus 119, often the Bunkers are used for a picnic on the weekend. Bring something to drink or eat and don’t go on cloudy days, otherwise, the view isn’t worth.
