The capital of USA is full of history, culture and lots of green, in 1 day in Washington it will not be possible to see everything but it will give you time to get to know the National Mall park very well.
HOW TO GET TO WASHINGTON D.C.
Getting to Washington for tourists is very easy both by plane and by train as there are many companies available to you. In my case, I arrived by Train, being in New York on vacation I took the opportunity to take a ride in the capital. Every hour there is a train, the average duration is 3h and a half, do not worry are comfortable trains and the controller will not disturb you more than once during the trip.
Ticket price € 115 return, it would have cost even less but it was a last-minute decision, do not wait for the last one. 😉
To try to make the most of the day, I took the first 5 am a train from Penn Station to Union Station and back at 5 pm. I assure you that it will give you time to make a great ride and end up with your legs apart.
Once you arrive at the station, you will not need to take any means of transport if you only want to go to the National Mall, once you leave the station you will find it at 100meters.
WHAT TO SEE
Being 1 day in Washington, I recommend you visit only the National Mall, a park that groups museums, art galleries, cultural institutions, real memorials, and sculptures. It receives about 24 million visitors each year and from one point to the other is 2.3 miles, 3.8km but do not worry you can take a break in the shade when you want.
The first thing you will find is the Lower Senate Park, where you will eventually find the United States Capitol if you want to visit it, take a look at the web page. Once passed you can continue along the park.
