Tenerife is an island that offers many options, but if you want to know the best part you’ll have to stay in Tenerife North. This part of the island is the greenest, with spectacular ocean views and vineyards everywhere. I am passionate about gastronomy and wines, in this area, there is the Monje Winery, so I chose this area. From El Sauzal to Garachico via Puerto de la Cruz, this will be the program for our weekend.
DAY1 EL SAUZAL
Tenerife North airport is located in San Cristobal de la Laguna, 13km from our first El Sauzal stop. It is an area that is located 300m above sea level, offering spectacular ocean views. You can go to the Terrazas del Sauzal, to enjoy this view (better if at sunset).
Our second stop is the Monje Winery, a family-run winery. For years he has been trying to make known to tourists who land in Tenerife only for seaside tourism his wines. The wine and food offer of this winery is one of the best I have been lucky enough to try. For more info and reservations read here!
On the road from Sauzal to La Orotava, you pass by Santa Ursula, to visit the Social La Quinta Garden (see the photo).
DAY2 PUERTO DE LA CRUZ AND LA OROTAVA
The second day we dedicate it to Puerto de la Cruz, one of the first tourist centers on the island. The city offers many options for tourists such as Lake Martianez, a circular pool that leads to the ocean, adult admission € 5.50. Other places to visit, Plaza del Charco and the Puerto de la Cruz Lighthouse.
The second stop of the day La Orotava. Approximately 78% of the Teide National Park is part of this municipality. The historic center is located at 390 meters altitude and was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1976. Its streets are dotted with buildings of great heritage interest and corners of great importance for the municipality, including the European University of Canary Islands.
Where to sleep? I chose the Hotel Botanico & The Oriental Spa Garden read here!
DAY3 GARACHICO
Last day we go down to Garachico, 18km from Puerto de la Cruz. But first, we stop at Icod del vino where the Drago Milenario (5€ the park admission) is located. A symbol of the island of Tenerife, it is estimated that this plant is over 1000 years old.
Garachico has a rich architectural heritage of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries very well preserved, so it was declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 1994. After the conquest of Tenerife, Garachico became the main fishing and commercial port of the island until a volcanic eruption destroyed it. To visit Fort San Miguel Castle, Conceptionist Convent and the Caletón.
