Mallorca: how to organize your trip

The largest of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca is fun, beaches and culture and forget the gastronomy. It is an island for each kind of person or budget. Maybe not the best beaches in Baleric (I prefer Menorca) but there are great beaches too, discover the Mallorca’s top 7 beaches. Travel to Mallorca in summer or the rest of the year, there is a lot to do.

HOW TO GET THERE

Palma has an airport (PMI) just a few kilometers from the city. A lot of low costs and not all year airlines offer good airfares (in winter you can get to pay less than € 30 for a return ticket). The airport of Palma is very large but it is easy to be located on the ground floor arrivals and the 4th for departures. Once you arrive at the airport you have two options: rent a car or take public transport.

RENT A CAR OR PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Renting a car if you only think of staying in Palma is not worth it, but if you have decided to cross the island it is the best option. The rentals are quite cheap (20 € / 3 days with Goldcar) but beware of the various insurances that raise the price to more than 100 €. In any case, you will have to check in the same ground as the arrivals and then with the keys pick up the car in the parking lot (the building in front).

If you have decided to spend your weekend only in Palma de Mallorca, you can take bus 1 or 21 that will take you to the center for just € 5 one way. Fares and timetables. There is the option to book a transfer too, look here!

BY BOAT

Another option to reach the island is by boat, there are various companies that depart from Barcelona, Valencia, and Malaga. I recommend starting in Barcelona as it is 5h30, otherwise, it can be a journey of 8h. Prices vary depending on the company, the most famous being Balearia and Trasmediterranea. To compare prices and timetables I recommend Direct Ferries, prices starting from € 25 one way.

Departing from Ibiza or Menorca the ferries are more frequent with an approximate duration of 2 / 3h.

WHERE TO SLEEP AND EAT

You can find whatever you want on this island, luxury hotels, hostels, apartments there are so many options for each budget. For a family maybe it is better apartments and for party guys a hostel is perfect. Check the widget of Booking.com at your right.

Eating well in Mallorca is very simple, products such as “Sobrasada” or “Ensaimadas” make gastronomy famous throughout Europe. Across the island, there are 9 Michelin restaurants, most of which are located in Palma. For the famous “Ensaimadas” there are many places but one of the oldest are those of Can Joan de S’Aigo in Palma or goes to Sa Rapita.

TOURISM

Mallorca is super famous for being a cheap island and with very beautiful beaches, surely you will find lots of English and Germans people. The goal of your trip is very important, so you can decide which part of the island to go to.

MAGALUF = a typical place for young English / Germans who want to party, if you are a couple or a family, I do not recommend it highly. Direct bus from the airport.

CALA D’OR = perfect for families, couples who want to relax and excellent beaches. Few night entertainments, and not many high-quality restaurants. I recommend booking an apartment or aparthotel. Direct bus from the airport.

PALMA = excellent for those who want to visit the city and if you have a few more days there are very close beaches like Cala Mayor. Excellent restaurants and entertainment in the harbor area. More info here!

ALCUDIA = perfect for families, couples who want to relax and excellent beaches. Few night entertainments, excellent fish restaurants. Direct bus from the airport.
