Varenna it’s one of the best places to start your weekend at Lake Como, and I choose the Hotel Olivedo for its view. Not expensive like Bellagio you can stay here and visit the best place of the lake with the ferry (that is in front of the hotel). The hotel is one of the oldest in the city but is very cozy.
HOTEL OLIVEDO
This lakefront hotel is a 2-minute walk from the pier in . The historic 19th-century building features a terrace with panoramic views of Lake Como. From here you can take the ferry to Bellagio, Menaggio and Como.
Menaggio Golf Club is 7 km away, across the lake. Ferries traveling around Lake Como leave from Varenna’s pier. The Olivedo Hotel is 5 minutes’ walk from Varenna-Esino Train Station.
From the nearest airport, you can get to Hotel Olivedo by car 2h 30min (Malpensa or Linate Airport)
Private parking is possible on site (reservation is not needed) and costs EUR 20 per day. There is no less than that, and it’s very hard to park around here so take it.

Including free WiFi and air conditioning, guest rooms of Hotel Olivedo offer a flat-screen TV with satellite channels. Some have a balcony with views of the lake. Check-in at Hotel Olivedo is from 14:00, and check-out is until 10:00.
The lake-view restaurant serves traditional dishes from the Lombardy region. In summer, breakfast is served on the panoramic terrace. Good coffee and cakes, they serve eggs with bacon if you ask. There is a lift, and WiFi is free throughout.
VARENNA
Varenna was founded by local fishermen in 769, and was later allied with the commune of Milan. In 1126 it was destroyed by the rival of Como, and later received the refugees from the Isola Comacina, who had met the same fate (1169).
