Linz in one day: the 3rd largest city of Austria

Linz is the third most populous city in Austria, after Vienna and Graz, it is located north of the country and crossed by the Danube river. Historically, the city is known as Adolf Hitler’s second home.

In 2009 Linz, together with the Lithuanian capital Vilnius, was elected as the European Capital of Culture. Since 1 December 2014 Linz is a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities (UCCN) as a City of Media Arts network.

Linz has an airport (LZN) at 14km from the city center. Direct flights include Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, and Vienna, including Kos, Ibiza, Korfu, Rhodes, Crete and Palma de Mallorca.

The bus line 601 connects the airport within 20 minutes with the center of Linz. There is also a free shuttle service from Hörsching railway station.

From the Linz train station, it is also possible to reach Salzburg for just € 10 (1h20), or Nuremberg and Munich for € 30 (2h44). If you prefer the bus instead, I suggest you take a look at the Flixbus page, there are good connections with Italy, Switzerland, Germany etc.
