Alpe Devero Natural Park

Italian Alpe Devero Natural Park is one of the best day trips that I made this summer. Amazing view, just nature, lakes, and mountains. A little bit crowded in August has been one of the most visited places this 2020 summer. Better go on a sunny day, and not in July which is so hot. September is the best month for me.

ALPE DEVERO

It was established in 1995 and includes two large alpine basins, Alpe Veglia located at the head of Val Cairasca, a side valley of Val Divedro and Alpe Devero located at the head of Valle di Devero, a side valley of Valle Antigorio that branches off a little after Baceno.

To the south of the park territory, the contiguous area of Alpe Devero was established in 1990 with an area of 2197 hectares and which includes the plain of Devero, the plain of Crampiolo and the valley of Bondolero.

At the beginning of the valley, we take direction to Crampiolo, here you can take for the Witch lake or Devero lake. The witch lake is just 15min walking and is very beautiful, his water is so blue.

Devero lake is much bigger, you 40min from Crampiolo but it’s worth it, here I suggest you go around the lake it’s awesome.

SUMMER OR WINTER?

In winter there are ski lifts on Monte Cazzola but also cross-country ski trails and various walks (to choose according to your level of experience) that can be practiced with ski mountaineering and snowshoes.

In summer a multitude of walks is possible as well as the possibility of various climbs. I prefer this period because the colors are so beautiful and is so easy to trekking here.

GENERAL INFO

Alpe Devero is located in Piedmont, in the northernmost part of the Ossola Valley, in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province. The nearest airports are Turin and Milan Malpensa, from Malpensa, there are more or less 120km.

Depends on the period is better to wake up very early in the morning because the parking lot isn’t so big and as a natural park entry depends on it. Summer is a very crowded season, be there before 9 am or is impossible to enter. There are 3 level parking, the nearest to the valley, and the other 2, all of them cost 6€ per day.

WHERE TO EAT

There are a lot of restaurants in this valley if you want to stay at Crampiolo (because in the afternoon you go to Devero lake) I suggest you book a table in this place. Another option is to eat is Casa Fontana a hotel/restaurant with local cuisine and good products.

If you go with children may be the best option is to prepare some sandwiches and eat wherever you want, no restriction on this area.
